Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
· Plan ahead and set goals
· Do things that have meaning and make a difference
· Be an important part of the classroom and contribute to the schools mission and vision
· Look for ways to be a good citizen
Jacqui - The Leader in Me is just a character ed program that gives us focus to help our students become better community members and global citizens.
Michelle - I truly believe SCES does a great job at becoming familiar and clear about our ending goals year to year. We plan everything at SCES with a certain outcome in mind. We just have to keep our eyes on the prize!!!
Katie - Planning ahead and modeling good citizenship is crucial in today's society.
Carol - Without an end in mind then all is to no avail. SCES set and works toward clear goals for everyone.
Linda - Habit 2- I believe that we as students and faculty strive to focus on making our community better by being aware of what is going on around us. Respect for ourselves and others is one of our main focuses.
Liz - In order for anything to be successful---you must plan ahead. You have to make decisions of where you want to go and how you are going to get there. Beginning with the End in Mind is incorporated daily in our classrooms as teachers take time to target needs of students and plan collaboratively of how to get students to reach the desired outcomes.
Lisa Nordan- We have such an important role in our students lives. Many students do not have good role models at home. We are the only good role models they have to learn from.
Demorrius - I feel that a vision is one of the most important things that a person can possess. This is true in teaching our kids especially. We have to consider that we are very much like potters when are working with children each. We should know what we expect our students obtain from their interaction with us, so that means we should give an reasonable amount thought into what we say and do around our students. I believe that if our vision is good and our plan of actions is well thought out we have a great oppurtinity to have a positive effect on our students.

To Begin with the End in Mind means to start with a clear understanding of your destination. It means to know where you're going so that you better understand where you are now and so that the steps you take are always in the right direction. It's incredibly easy to get caught up in an activity trap, in the busy-ness of life, to work harder and harder at climbing the ladder of success only to discover it's leaning against the wrong wall. It is possible to be busy -- very busy -- without being very effective. People often find themselves achieving victories that are empty, successes that have come at the expense of things they suddenly realize were far more valuable to them. People from every walk of life often struggle to achieve a higher income, more recognition or a certain degree of professional competence, only to find that their drive to achieve their goal blinded them to the things that really mattered most and now are gone. Our lives are so different when we really know what is deeply important to us, and, keeping that picture in mind, we manage ourselves each day to be and to do what really matters most
I teach my students to have dreams and to get into the practice of setting goals which will allow them to make measureable progress towards their dreams.
Whitlock- I can remember graduating from high school and the feeling was one of the best feelings of my life. When I reflect back on why I was successful in graduating from high school and moving on to college I can really pin point two things that were instrumental. My teachers always encouraged me to do well and work hard. Also, my parents reminded me constantly of what lie ahead and the hard work it would take to get to where I needed to be. Both my teachers and parents believed strongly in setting goals at an early age. I have followed this belief throughout my life and try to pass it on to others. If you don't set goals and decide where it is that you want to go, then how can you expect to accomplish those goals or get where you want to be? Begin with the end in mind.....doesn't mean you can't change the plan. The starting point should actually be the thought of how things should end.
Shelia Smith - Explaining to our students the importance of the lesson that is currently being taught teaches them to begin with the end in mind. The habits of good citizenship also needs to be modeled by teachers and parents, but when at school teachers should model appropriate behavior in all situations.
Create what you want in your mind, and the energy flows in that direction. Knowing what you want will help recognize everything that is going to support you in achieving what you want. Mind you, you still have to work for it! But the process will be so much more productive, because you will (subconsciously) recognize opportunities that will help you.
Gibson, P. Planning ahead is very important and teaching children at an early age to have a plan and to follow through with it will help them to organize and to make future decisions that will be crucial for success. Teaching students to solve conflicts and to respect the opinions of others, although they may not always agree with their opinions will help them develop life long skills that will help them to become good citizens.
In order to move forward in life, education or employment you must set goals and these goals will be your destination. So now that a destination has been set, the course of action will determine the path you take and the values you posses. At SCES we strive to achieve our goals with integrity and passion for the well being of the children.

Each year, as teachers, we have goals and ideas of accomplishments we want to instill in our students. We begin with the end in mind. We want our students to be leaders by taking control of their lives, establishing priorities, staying disciplined, and focused. We also want them to entail insights into how to communicate effectively with others. Planning and carrying plans all the way through, with the end in mind, will result in VICTORY for ALL!!!!
Sandra - As a special education teacher, writing IEPs have assisted me in planning and beginning with the end in mind. If we do not plan ahead, we must not expect our student to want to move ahead. Their motivation lies within our outlook and preparation for their success.
Pam Mc., Charity, & Bobbie Mac - To Begin with the End in Mind is to first develop a plan of where you want to be in the end. Once you have a plan and set goals, you have the vision and values which direct your life.
Emily Martin- To Begin With the End in Mind means whenever you start something new, you have planned ahead and thought through whatever it is you are starting. You set your goals and when you begin, you are working on meeting these goals. By beginning everything with the end in mind, you are a reliable person, hard worker, and will be so successful in life. You also do things that have a meaning and will make a difference
llie-To Begin with an End in Mind, you need to develop a Personal Mission Statement. It focuses on what you want to be and do.Your Mission Statement makes you the leader of your own life. You create your own destiny and secure the future you envision.
Zeda--Setting goals in life whether it be in the work place or in my personal life is very important for me. That way I can pace myself and work in that direction successfully.
Priscilla Grayson and Mrs. White-One of the best ways to Begin With the End in Mind is to develop a Personal Mission Statement. This statement should always focus on what you want to be and do in life. When you set your goals, your mission statement can influence your ability to be the leader of your own life. When we begin with the End in Mind we can help create our own destiny.
Gwen, Patti, and Teresa
It is important to set goals in all aspects of life. We need to instill the importance of setting goals in our students.
Becky Gibson- I agree with the 1st grade teachers. We should have our students set behavior and academic goals at the beginning of the year!
Pam Moody - I feel that education as a whole has placed too much emphasis on test scores without keeping the end in mind. School is more than just academics and test scores. We need to place just as much emphasis on life skills if we want a good end result.
